Jalapeño Cheddar Greek Yogurt Bagels

Bagels are one of my all time favorite foods! And these jalapeño cheddar Greek yogurt bagels are packed full of flavor and so easy to make! A few years ago, I shared an Everything Bagel recipe made with Greek yogurt. They’ve remained a favorite in our house. These jalapeño cheddar bagels use the same base, but have different mix-ins for a delicious spicy, cheesy flavor!

I really can’t emphasize enough how quick and easy these are to make. There’s no yeast in them, so there’s no rise time. It’s just mixing the dough together, shaping and baking. You can get delicious, homemade bagels in just about 30 minutes.

There’s also Greek yogurt in these, so there’s a little extra boost of protein in them. I love them paired with some veggie cream cheese – so good!

Tips for Making Jalapeño Cheddar Greek Yogurt Bagels:

  • Make the bagels into tall circles when forming them. These tend to bake up a little flatter then the everything bagels, so you want them nice and tall before baking. (You can see photos of this process in the everything bagel post).
  • The jalapeño slices on top will shrink down quite a bit while baking. So you’ll want bigger rings on top.
  • You’ll want to shred your own cheese. Pre-shredded cheese comes with a coating on it, so it changes the texture and taste a little.

Jalapeño Cheddar Greek Yogurt Bagels

These Jalapeño Cheddar Greek Yogurt Bagels are full of flavor and quick and easy to make! There's no rise time, and they have a little boost of protein from the yogurt – a delicious baked good.

Ingredients
For the Bagels:
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup plain greek yogurt
  • 1-2 tablespoons* diced jalapeno pepper
  • 1/3 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
For the Topping:
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • jalapeno slices
  • 1/4-1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375ºF.  Line baking sheet with silicone mat or parchment paper.
  2. In a medium size mixing bowl, mix together flour, baking powder and salt.
  3. Stir yogurt into flour mixture, stirring until combined and dough is crumbly.
  4. Add in the diced jalapeño and 1/3 cup shredded cheese. Fold to incorporate.

  5. Shape dough into a ball, using more flour if dough is too sticky or a little more yogurt if it it won’t stick together.
  6. On a floured surface, knead the dough about 15 turns.
  7. Divide into 4 equal size balls.
  8. Poke hole in center of one dough ball and gently stretch the hole until it’s the desired size.
  9. Repeat with remaining dough balls.
  10. Place on prepared baking sheet and lightly brush the tops of each bagel with beaten egg.
  11. Top each bagel with desired amount of shredded cheese and jalapeño slices.

  12. Bake for 20 minutes or until top of bagels are golden.

Recipe Notes

*Use as much diced jalapeno as you like, if you like them spicy, use the full 2 tablespoons (or if your pepper isn’t overly spicy). If you’d like them less spicy, use less jalapeno.
