Shared Kids Room

After months of putting off finishing this room, the shared kids room is finally done! Malacai and Levi have been sharing this room for the last couple of years, and ever since we did Lincoln’s room last year, the boys have been begging for a makeover for their room.

The room before was actually pretty nice, it had been re-done a few years back…I never shared an official room tour (it is such a hard room to photograph, but you can see quite a bit of it in the different projects we shared from it…like this light, this shelf, and this hanging paper roll); but they just wanted something new and different. We added some paint, rearranged and switched out some furniture and the boys are happy with their updated shared room!

wall painted half green with vintage U.S. map hanging on it

We added green paint to the bottom half of the walls, we used Behr Thai Basil. I love this look, since it brings in a pop of color but without having to fully commit to color – haa! Still love my white walls so much! This map is a vintage one we picked up at an auction a few years back. I think it’s from the 1920s, it came with a whole set of classroom maps, and the boys were happy to get one to hang in their room.

wood twin beds in shared boys room

One of the biggest changes was getting rid of their bunkbed. When we first built the bed, they fought over who got to sleep on top, that changed to fighting over the bottom bunk after a while, and it just seemed that no matter what, we couldn’t win.

So we took apart the bunk and built new beds. It’s definitely made this small room feel even smaller to have two beds, but they are happy with the change, so that’s all that matters. We shared the DIY for the beds here.

The rug was given to us by Ruggable and is the Damali Black & White Rug. I love the simple, modern design (always blending the old & the new) and best of all, it’s machine washable!! So perfect for a kids room!

The nightstand is also a DIY. It’s so hard to find furniture that’s the right size and look for what ya need sometimes, so we built our own! We’ll be sharing that DIY soon too.

painted kids vintage dresser with brass hardware

This dresser is a vintage one Mike found at the thrift store months ago; we refinished it and added new hardware. The boys actually use this for all their toys and random things kids seem to collect and just need to keep. They have a built in dresser and shelves in their closet, so all their clothes fit in there.

wood slab desk against green and white wall

The desk is the one we built a couple years ago, you can find the DIY here, we just moved it to a different spot. We also turned it more into a one man desk, as they don’t use it a lot, and never are using it at the same time. The magnetic display rail above it is also a DIY, you can find that here.

The ABCs banner is one our friend Colleen made, you can find it here!

black basketball hoop hanging on wall in bedroom

The last update was this small basketball hoop. Both the boys love playing basketball and wanted one in their room (we have one downstairs too…and outside!). So I ordered this one, but gave it a little makeover, because yes, even basketball hoops should look good! 😉

Hope you enjoyed the little room tour! We’ll be sharing a couple of the new DIYs from this space soon, so stayed tuned for that!
