DIY Wooden Clothing Rack

I’m getting back into the swing of things after a slightly unintended week away from work. Ha! I was up at my family’s cottage that typically has slow wifi but this week it was basically non-existent so I ended up not being able to do the work that I had planned to do. Now I’m back home with fast internet and no excuses not to jump back into things! So here we go! A couple weeks ago I made this wooden clothing rack to possibly add to my room for all of my staple wardrobe pieces to hang on so I can easily grab those items every day. I live with two other girls and we have one big closet to share so this is a nice option to bring some of the more necessary items out of there and into my space. Real life — the door knob from my room to the shared closet has been broken since we moved in so I kind of find it annoying to try to get in there because of the tiny bit of extra effort it takes hahah! I know it’s probably much easier to fix the door knob than build a clothing rack but this was far more fun!DIY Wooden Clothing Rack @themerrythoughtWhat you need:
-Two 1″x4″x8′ common board
-One 1″x4″x6′ common board
-1″ dowel
-Miter saw
-Drill
-Screws

How to make it:
-Out of 8′ boards: cut 5′ piece and 2′ piece
-Out of 6′ board cut two 3′ pieces
-Cut 3′ piece of 1″ dowel
-Cut one end of 5′ pieces and one end of 2′ pieces at a 15° angle using a miter saw.
-On the flat end of the 2′ boards, make two marks along the side at 3/8″ in from end and 1-1/4″ from the top and bottom.
-On one of the 3″ boards, make two marks on the end of the board at 3/8″ in from the sides and 1-1/4″ from the top and bottom.
-Pre-drill at these marks.
-Screw boards in place. This is the base of the stand. The 2′ boards should be on the outside of the 3′ board.
-On the other 3′ board, make two marks along the side of each end at 3/8″ in from end and 1-1/4″ from the top and bottom.
-On the flat end of the 5′ boards, make two marks on the end of the board at 3/8″ in from the sides and 1-1/4″ from the top and bottom.
-Pre-drill at these marks.
-Screw boards in place. This is the top of the stand. The 3′ board should be on the top of the 5′ boards.
-Measure 6″ down from top (flat end) of 5′ boards and 1-3/4″ in from sides and make a mark.
-Measure and mark to the center of the dowel.
-Pre-drill at these marks
-Screw dowel in place.
-Line up the angled end of the 5′ boards with the angled end of the 2′ boards so that the rack will be leaning towards the back of the stand. Hold in place and pre-drill two holes and screw in place.
