Strawberry Cream Cheese Heart Danish

I love making food for holidays! And these strawberry cream cheese heart danish might be a new favorite! I was expecting this to be good. It’s similar to the blueberry cream cheese danish I shared years ago, which was very yummy. But somehow this was so much better than I was anticipating. My family thought the same thing. My boys were devouring them. And I got an immediate request to have these made for a birthday morning treat.

So needless to say, these are definitely a must make to add to your list! They are easy to make. Using frozen puff pastry helps keep things quick and simple. Then you’re just mixing up a cream cheese filling and slicing some strawberries. After a quick bake in the oven, you’ve got a delicious, sweet Valentine’s treat!

To make the hearts, you’ll need a heart cookie cutter. Two heart cookie cutters, one slightly smaller than the other, will make it even easier to make. (You’re scoring a smaller heart inside the larger one, you can see that step in a photo below). I used these heart cookie cutters to make mine. This set was nice because I was able to use the smallest heart on my strawberry slices.

Strawberry Cream Cheese Heart Danish

This strawberry cream cheese heart danish is made with puff pastry, a cream cheese filling and fresh strawberries. An easy, delicious treat for Valentine's Day!

Course: Breakfast, Brunch
Ingredients
  • 2 frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • fresh strawberries, sliced
  • powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Mix together cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Set aside.
  3. Wash and slice strawberries. Set aside. (I used a small heart cookie cutter to slice my strawberries).

  4. Unfold pastry and gently roll out creases.
  5. Use a heart cookie cutter to cut out hearts. Using a smaller cookie cutter, or a knife, make a smaller heart indent (not cutting all the way through) inside the larger heart. (see photo in the post)

  6. Brush the outer edge of the hearts with beaten egg.

  7. Spoon about 1/2 tablespoon cream cheese mixture onto the smaller heart, leaving the border around the edge.

  8. Top cream cheese mixture with a slice or two of strawberries.

  9. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until pastry is golden brown.
  10. Let danishes cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar.
  11. Best served on the day they are made, either warm or room temperature.

Recipe Notes

This makes approximately 18 heart pastries, but will vary depending on the size of your cookie cutter. (I did have scraps leftover after cutting out my hearts).
