This time of year brings a lot of get togethers, celebrations and parties for us. We’ve got a good amount of family birthdays that keep us busy celebrating just about every week throughout May & June; and the arrival of nice weather means everyone is hosting pool parties, bonfires, picnics and BBQs! This month’s Michaels Makers challenge was all about summer celebrations and we couldn’t help but involve one of our summer party favorites – ice cream!A couple years ago, we made a simple, rustic ice cream cone holder to use as a food prop for our ice cream posts and we’ve been wanting to update that stand with a lighter, more modern stand and this challenge gave us the perfect opportunity to do that. This simple, natural cone stand is easy and quick to put together and with the addition of a few extra supplies picked up at Michaels, you can have a simple ice cream station set up in no time for your next get together.Ice Cream Cone Stand:
– 1/4x12x24 birch plywood
– table saw
– drill with 1/38 forstner bit
– wood glue
– sand paper
Cut the wood into three pieces; a top piece measuring 2 3/4” x 14 1/2″ and two side pieces measuring 3 1/2″ x 2 3/4″.
Measure and mark where holes will go. Ours were 2 7/8” center to center and 1 1/2” from the ends to the center of the first holes.
Glue the end pieces onto the bottom of the top piece. Clamp the end pieces on, making sure they are square with the top piece and let dry.
Once the glue is dry, remove the clamps. Sand as needed.
– pretty paper
– cone wrapper template
– washi tape
Download the cone wrapper template. Place template on paper and cut out. Wrap around cone and tape in place. To get inspired for you next summer gathering, be sure to check out all of the other Michaels Makers DIY summer party ideas here or on the Michaels blog.
