Apple Sandwiches

Apple Sandwiches @themerrythought
Coming up with healthy snack options is essential in a house full of growing boys. Somedays I feel as if I’m doing nothing but serving up food to my three guys. I try to make sure that some of their snacks involve fruits and veggies of some sort and I’ve found that pairing them with something else makes them a little more exciting to eat.  So I decided to try out apple sandwiches and the boys loved them.

These are a great snack option because there’s so many different things you could spread on your apples. I decided to try peanut butter since my boys can’t get enough peanut butter and some chèvre (goat cheese) because that’s one of my favorite things to snack on.  Both got a little drizzle of honey to sweeten the deal.
Other yummy options that might be worth trying out are greek yogurt, Nutella, cookie butter or this brown sugar apple dip would be great sandwiched in! And sprinkling on some granola, raisins or mini chocolate chips would be delish too.  And I think drizzling on some salted caramel sauce is a definite must-try!

To make apple sandwiches, just wash, slice and core your apples. (I used tiny cookie cutters on some for fun shapes for the boys). Then spread a bit of chèvre or peanut butter on a slice, drizzle on a little bit of honey and top with another apple slice.

Do you have any go to healthy-ish snacks for us to try out? I’m always looking for more things to keep my always hungry crew satisfied…

Aw, this is a GREAT idea!!! Do you have a special apple-corer (?) or do you just slice right through and then cut out the middle?ReplyCancel

Hey Kristen – I cut my apple into slices and then cut out the middles. And I use cookie cutters to do all my cutting out – shapes and just a plain old circle.ReplyCancel
