DIY Paper Mache Airplant Pod

DIY Paper Mache Pod @themerrythoughtWhen I was in California last month, I was in a shop admiring all of the beautiful hanging ceramic pods with airplants in them and one of my friends suggested that I try to make one out of paper mache. Genius! I immediately added it to my idea list that I have on my phone. This week I tried it out. I let myself buy a couple new airplanes since I mayyy have killed off my other ones. 😉 It’s a pretty perfect addition to the apartment although I haven’t decided where I want to hang it for sure yet. -Balloon
-Water
-Flour
-Newspaper
-Scissors
-Paint
-String

How to make it:
-Blow up a balloon slightly – make it the size that you want the pod to be. (Some brands of ballons work better for this because you want it to be as round as possible.)
-Mix 1/2 cup of flour with 1 cup of water.
-Cut up strips of newspaper.
-Dip strips in flour mixture, remove excess with fingers and cover most of the balloon – you can leave the knotted part uncovered.
-Make sure the balloon is covered well and let dry overnight.
-Add another layer of newspaper to make it more durable and let dry completely.
-Pop the balloon and remove and use the scissors to cut an even circle around the edge you left open.
-Paint pod and let dry.
-Use scissors to poke a hole in the top, center of the pod and put the string down through the top. Tie a knot in the string and cut off the end.
-Tie a loop in the top of the string and hang it up!
