Having fresh herbs on hand when cooking or making cocktails is amazing. I buy fresh herbs from the store often so I have them but they go bad so quickly! This simple cutting board has a place for your fresh herbs so they’re within reach while chopping up ingredients for your next mojito or fruit salad.Materials Needed:
-hardwood
-tape measure
-pencil
-table saw
-3 1/4″ hole saw
-drill press
-sandpaper
-wood glue
-clamps
-nail gun
-drill
-hammer
-nails
-butcher block conditioner
-3″ terracotta pots
-paint
-fresh herbs
Directions:
-Measure and mark out the following pieces from the hardwood:
One piece: 8″ x 18″ x 1″
Two pieces: 1 1/4″ x 18″ x 1/2″
Two pieces: 1 1/4″ x 7″ x 1/2″
-Use table saw to cut out pieces and use sandpapers to smooth the edges.
-On one end of the large board, measure and mark where your holes will be drilled. Measure in 2 1/4″ from the top and 2 1/4″ from the side and make a mark then measure 2 1/4″ from the bottom and 2 1/4″ from the side and make another mark.
-Use hole saw and drill press to drill a circle at each of these points. Make sure the center bit is aligned with your mark.
-Use sandpaper to smooth the edges of the circles.
-Lay the large board top down and use wood glue along the side of each of the four 1/2″ pieces of wood and place along the edges of the large board.
-Use clamps or apply even pressure to allow glue to dry.
-Use nail gun to secure corners.
-Use drill to pre-drill small holes along each side for the nails.
-Hammer nails into place.
-Use butcher block conditioner to seal the wood.
Paint terra-cotta pots if desired and transfer herb plants into the pots. Place pots into the holes and you’re ready to go! I placed matching terra-cotta saucers under the cutting board to catch extra water.xo. Caitlin
