Awhile back I was talking with a friend. She mentioned that she had skipped a camping trip with her husband because she needed to stay home to take care of some housework. Her house is always perfectly kept and looks like it could be in a Country Living magazine. It was at that moment I realized my home would never be perfectly kept. Because friends, I would never, ever skip a camping trip to take care of housework. I will gladly leave a sinkful of dishes for a playdate or dinner invitation without a second thought. On an ordinary day you will find Cheerios under the table, diaper bags stacked in the kitchen, toys strewn across the kitchen floor and tiny hand prints on the oven window. Sometimes it’s hard for me to accept because of my perfectionist tendencies. But if I sit back and really think about it…this is where I want to be. It’s a bit chaotic sometimes but it’s a beautiful chaos.
We’ve made some big changes in the kitchen, including moving the washer & dryer out and knocking a wall out to open it up to the dining room. I consider these ‘progress’ pictures because there are still some projects we would like to tackle. But, it’s come a long ways since we moved in a few months ago…

Things I love about my kitchen…
.. The 1940’s green laminate counters and original cupboards.
.. The windows and fantastic light.
.. The reclaimed barnwood shelves my amazing husband built me.
.. The lovely little breakfast nook.
.. My double-oven dual fuel range – so glad we splurged on this!
.. The magnetic chalkboard wall…perfect for hanging artwork & keeping little hands busy while I cook!
