DIY Pencils

DIY Pencils @themerrythought Alright people, this is one of the quickest DIYs ever and they are so much fun! You’ll probably want to make a little batch for every person on your Christmas list!
DIY Pencils @themerrythought What you need:
-Square dowel
Scroll saw
Belt sander
Graphite (2.0 mm)
-Super glue
*Optional – Paint

How to make it:
-Using the scroll saw, cut square dowel into pieces (I did varying lengths) and then sand down the rough edges.
-Drill a hole down through the center of each piece of dowel that is the same size as the graphite.
-Put a dab of super glue on the end of the graphite and push it into the hole you drilled. Give glue a couple minutes to dry and then break of the excess graphite.
-Use a band saw to sand down each side at the top until you have a point in the middle with the graphite visible.
-Now you can paint or customize them however you want then package them up and give them as a sweet little gift!

I love this project, as well as many others you have done. I’m a DIYer myself, so I am going through all your projects. I have pinned several so far that I’d like to try. I am especially thrilled to see some out of wood and leather among many other things…I do the SAME thing.
I am wondering where you found the lead for the pencils. All I recall seeing is short. Is the type for this project hard to find?
Please pop over and visit me at I’m a newbie at the whole blogging thing, so I don’t have as many projects as you do, but many varying materials.ReplyCancel
