Gingerbread Salt Dough Ornaments

Total Time 3 hours

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup ground ginger
  • 1/4 cup ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup salt
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 - 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients thoroughly in a bowl.

  2. Slowly add in the water and mix well.

  3. Knead dough for a few minutes until thoroughly mixed.

  4. Preheat oven to 250°.

  5. Roll out dough until about 1/4" thick.

  6. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes.

  7. Use needle to make a hole at the top of the cut outs.

  8. Place ornaments on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

  9. Bake for 1-2 hours (depending on thickness).

  10. Once they cool, rub with vegetable oil to bring out the darker color.

  11. Remove excess oil and let dry.

  12. Paint as desired.

  13. Let dry.

  14. Add string or ornament hook and enjoy!
