DIY Wood Salt & Pepper Shakers

With the holidays here and lots of dinners and gatherings happening, I thought it might be nice to have an extra set of salt & pepper shakers around. Seems like we’re always passing the shakers around throughout meals, hurry up and pass the salt already!, so an extra set or two for big dinners would be nice. We also have a lot of left over dowels from various projects, so I thought why not make a set and use up some of those dowels?! These salt & pepper shakers are a simple project, and with the right tools, quick to do – and they would also make sweet little gifts for the cook/hosts & hostesses in your life!DIY Wood Salt & Pepper Shakers @themerrythoughtDIY Wood Salt & Pepper Shakers @themerrythoughtMaterials:

– wood dowel (we used a 1-1/4-inch dowel)
– mitre box
– drill press
– drill with bit
– cork bottle stoppers
– sand paper
– black & white paint & paintbrush

Directions:

Cut dowel to desired size with mitre box, our shakers are 3.50-inches tall. With drill press, drill a bigger size hole to give space to grab cork 1/4-inch deep, drill hole to fit the cork all the way till you leave about 5/8-inch of wood at the end. Mark where you want the top holes to be and drill holes. Sand if needed. Paint bottom of shakers to designate which is salt and which is pepper. Fill with salt & pepper and shake away!DIY Wood Salt & Pepper Shakers @themerrythoughtDIY Wood Salt & Pepper Shakers @themerrythoughtDIY Wood Salt & Pepper Shakers @themerrythought
