DIY Mermaid Hair Spray

Hair is to have fun with. That’s always been my motto throughout life. I’ve had super short pixie cuts, long hair, bleached my hair, colored it, permed it, straightened it…I love being able to try different looks with my hair. While I’ve always had naturally curly hair, as I’ve gotten older, my hair has just become more and more curly. Over the last few years, I was growing out my hair (mostly just because that’s the easiest thing and well, mom life!) and trying to embrace those curls. After spending years growing it out (you can see it here – these are some of my favorite photos Caitlin & I have taken, just being our weirdo selves – ha!), last fall I finally felt the need for something different and got my hair straightened (semi-permanently), our bio photo on the top right on the site shows that. I also had about 6-8 inches cut off as well after a couple months. After about 6 months of that, my hair was growing in and I had this weird part curly/pair straight thing going on and so I permed the ends so that it would be closer to my natural hair while it was growing back in. Told you, I do a lot with my hair. So my hair has been needing a little bit of extra TLC right now after all that. And as you might know, I’ve really been into making my own beauty products. So I decided to make up a spray that would help my hair become a little healthier and better looking during the growing-back-in phase.Mermaid Hair Spray @themerrythoughtI am a big fan of using essential oils – you can read all about that here. (I also just started a brand spanking new Instagram account where I’ll be sharing lots more oily stuff and things related to living a healthier lifestyle – love to have ya following along – @essentiallylivewell). The essential oils used in this spray all help in getting those lovely mermaid locks we all dream of.
Lavender oil helps promote hair growth, helping it grow quicker as well as being good for your skin/scalp. Rosemary oil is great for your scalp, it increases circulation, and stimulates the roots. It can also help soothe an itchy, dry scalp. Cedarwood also promotes circulation and promotes hair growth and slows down hair loss.
And can I just say, this spray smells amazing! I want to use it throughout the day, just to keep smelling it – ha! You can use this on damp or dry hair. I spray it on my hair, right up by the roots, and massage in right after I get out of the shower. I also use it on dry hair and scrunch it in to give it a little boost if my hair is looking a little scraggly. I have been loving this spray. I use it in combination with Young Living’s Mirah Hair Oil, and my hair is already looking and feeling healthier. (Also helps that I can wave bye to humidity for the next 8 months!)Mermaid Hair Spray @themerrythoughtSome of you have asked questions about oils and getting started with them and for those of you that have been wanting to jump in, right now if you order your starter kit through me (which includes a diffuser + 11 oils + wholesale pricing/membership + other goodies), I’ll send you a 2 ounce bottle of this Mermaid Hair Spray and you’ll get $20 off (from me, not through the site).
