DIY Lip Scrub

When I was a teenager, I read an article about how good honey was for your lips – helping to moisture and keep them smooth. So one night my best friend and I sat in the kitchen rubbing gobs of honey on our lips and laughing ourselves silly trying to carry on conversations while honey dripped down our chins. Fast forward about 20 years 😳 and here I am, still rubbing honey on my lips in the form of this DIY Lip Scrub!

You know I love making my own beauty products, and recently lip scrubs have been popping up everywhere, so of course I had to DIY some! Plus, these winter months can be tough on my skin, lips included! For those with dry, chapped lips, or even if you’re just looking for a little spa-like self care treatment, this DIY lip scrub is great for helping keeping your lips soft, smooth and looking healthier. This simple-to-make DIY lip scrub has only 3 ingredients (4 if you use essential oils), sugar, honey and coconut oil. Sugar is a great natural exfoliant, and the honey and coconut oil help provide moisture.

So why make your own? It’s cheaper and can be made with simple ingredients that you most likely already have in your pantry, and all the ingredients in it are natural. Plus, you can print this label for your jar and have a nice looking beauty product for your bathroom shelf, just look how pretty it is in that last photo! 😉This DIY lip scrub is super easy and quick to make, and they make for great gifts too! And it pairs perfectly with this DIY Body Scrub!

Lip Scrub

  • 2 tablespoons sugar (you can use cane, brown or granulated)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 teaspoons coconut oil (you could also use olive oil or jojoba oil)
  • 2-4 drops essential oil* – optional
  • small jar with lid (I used this 1 ounce jar)
  • label – download here

Stir together all ingredients until well mixed. Place in jar. To use, scoop out a small amount and rub gently on lips. Let sit for a few minutes, then wipe off with warm washcloth. Use about once a week.

*I recommend using the Vitality Oils from Young Living, those are safe to be ingested, and since this is going on your lips, best to be safe! I used Cinnamon Bark & Peppermint in mine, 1 drop of each (since those are both pretty potent oils), and I wanted the scent to be very subtle. You can read more about essential oils here – not all oils are created equal, please don’t use synthetic oils on your skin!!
