It’s almost December already! I’m not quite sure how it happened. But I’m getting excited and actually got around to making an advent calendar this year! It’s not much fun doing an advent activity each day alone at your apartment, so I came up with another idea for my calendar… writing to a friend each day! It helps me work on my goal to write more letters and you can brighten up a loved one’s day each day of the month with some good, old fashioned snail mail!
How to make it: Cut out 25 pieces of birch plywood (I bought mine at Michael’s) the size of your matchboxes. Paint a design on each of them with white paint and then add in the numbers 1-25 with a permanent marker. Hot glue the piece of wood to the front of your matchbox. (Mine had a blank back side but if yours doesn’t, you might want to glue a plain piece of wood to the back.) Use scissors to poke a hole through the center of the top of the inside of your matchbox. Push some string through the hole and tie a knot. Go grab a pine branch and hang it by tying some string to each end. Tie each of your matchboxes to the branch.
Now you can add a piece of paper to each box with the name of who you will write to that day. I grabbed a box to display the vintage postcards I’m going to be sending out. I need to stop by the antique co-op this week and pick up a few more so I have enough for each day!
And there you go! A fun little display for your house and an easy way to share a little Christmas love with your friends and family.
