Lemon Bitters

This is another project that was on my list of things to try for months and I kept bumping it back on our calendar. I had originally planned to make a batch of these to give to my friends for Christmas… HA! Next year, folks! Once you’ve round up all the ingredients for this, it is very simple to put together – just requires a bit of patience.

I use Fee Brother’s Bitters for all of our mocktail recipes because they are non-alcoholic but this is a great recipe for all the cocktail drinkers out there.
Lemon Bitters @themerrythoughtLemon Bitters (Makes about 5oz)
4 organic Meyer lemons
2 organic oranges
2 cardamom pods, crushed
1 tsp gentian root
1/2 tsp fennel seeds
1/2 tsp coriander seeds
1/2 tsp whole cloves

Vodka (I used Everclear.)

Zest the lemons & oranges using a vegetable peeler and place the peel on the cookie sheet. Bake at 150 degrees until dried but not burned, about 40 minutes. Check regularly to ensure peels have not burned.

Put all ingredients in an 8 oz jar and cover in vodka. Store for 3-4 weeks, shaking occasionally. Strain. Bottle.
Lemon Bitters @themerrythoughtLemon Bitters @themerrythoughtSimple enough, right? Now you can impress all of your guests with some homemade bitters in the next cocktail you shake up for them!
