My love for coffee runs deep. And so does my love for a good mocktail. So when I heard about a drink that combined both these, I knew Mike & I had to give this try!
Apparently it’s a popular drink over in Italy and it’s slowing starting to gain popularity here in the states. It’s a pretty simple drink, just espresso, simple syrup and ice, shaken together. It’s smooth, a little sweet and the perfect thing to sip while welcoming in these warmer days! I thought it was good as is, but if you’d like it a little sweeter, some sweetened condensed milk in it would be delicious! We made a few different rounds of these, using different espresso/sweetener combinations and the quality of your espresso really makes a difference, so definitely make/use the best kind you can!Caffè Shakerato
2 oz espresso
1 oz simple syrup (recipe below)
6-8 ice cubes
Combine the ice cubes, simple syrup and espresso in a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously for about 30 seconds. Strain into a glass and enjoy!
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup granulated sugar
Combine water and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool completely. Store syrup in a lidded jar or bottle in the refrigerator.
Here’s to more warm days for enjoying this drink!
