DIY Cement Backdrop

DIY Cement Backdrop @themerrythoughtBlogging has some strange challeneges to it. One of those challenges is finding new, interesting spots to photograph your projects all the time. I need a room full of windows with a ton of different types of walls and tables. While we’re waiting for that huge, perfect studio space, we make a lot of our own backdrops for our photoshoots. Recently, I decided to whip up this cement backdrop to add to our collection.
DIY Cement Backdrop @themerrythoughtWhat you need:
-Plywood
-Cement
-Putty Knife
-Sandpaper

How to make it:
-Mix your cement according to directions. Don’t mix more cement than you can use in 10 minutes. (I added a little bit more water to mine than it required to make it easier to spread.)
**I’d recommend laying your plywood out on an old tarp.
-Pour a small amount of cement on the plywood and use the putty knife to spread it across the plywood. Continue to do this until the entire board is covered. Don’t pour too much at one time or it will start hardening too quickly.
-You should probably go over the board twice.
-Let it dry a bit and if your plywood seems to be warping from the moisture, add some weight to the top (I just used my bucket of cement.)
-Let it sit for at least 24 hours and then you can break off excess cement from the sides of the plywood and then sand it down if you want a smoother look. Wear a mask!
