Celery Print Valentines

I’ve gotta admit, I’m a sucker for Valentine’s Day. I love the hearts, the red, the pink, the pretty, the sweets, the love.  A day to remind those around you that they are loved – although we should be doing that everyday!  Cheesy or not, it’s just fun and sweet to me.  And I’ll admit, I can be pretty cheesy…Caitlin just loved all my bizarre, cheesy suggestions during our Valentine planning – haa!

Every year I like to make some homemade Valentines with the boys to send to the grandparents. This year, we tried out vegetable prints with celery – which make nice hearts! It’s a fun and simple way to make some cute Valentines.

To make your cards, just cut off the ends of a few celery stalks. I dabbed a paper towel on the end to soak up some moisture.  Then using a paint brush, brush paint onto the end of the stalk, and stamp away.  Apply more paint as needed.  I found it easier to brush on the paint rather than dip the stalk right in the paint – you could better control how much paint was going on.  It’s also easiest to have a stalk for every color you’re using so you don’t need to bother with cleaning off your stalk.

These would make great Valentines for your kids to give to friends and classmates – they’re pretty quick to make and kids can help.  I think they’d also be lovely framed and hung on the wall!
